Danielle and Blair were visiting family in Victoria during rainy October. We lucked out with their mini session at Thetis Lake, because the rain stopped shortly before the shoot. They were very patient as I made them climb some big hills and look at each other lovingly for twenty minutes.

I like to focus on capturing natural expressions and real emotion in my portrait sessions, so I lightly pose couples and direct them using prompts and conversation. Some of these sessions are partially or totally candid, which is a great way to document an important part of your relationship (ex: walking your dog, hanging out at a favourite cafe or pub, doing a hobby together).

I met up with Karen and Chris at Government House in mid-September. I got there early and it started pouring, so I texted them to ask if they wanted to reschedule. They wanted to wait a few minutes and see if it cleared. When they arrived, we grabbed a couple of umbrellas and hid under […]
When I met Brittany and Mark above the beach at Mt. Doug, they were sitting at a picnic table, already enjoying the evening together. They’d scouted the location earlier that day, but the tide had come in before the shoot, leaving just a small amount of beach to work with. We made the best of […]
Kim and Rocky visited Victoria for their 25th anniversary. They’ve been a couple for 33 years, and they’re still adventuring together (they rode bikes through the region and went ziplining) and enjoying being affectionate, even with the camera on them. We met up near their hotel and wandered along the westsong walkway.
Dawn and Dominque are getting married this summer and I’m excited to photograph it. I hear there are some great dancers among their friends. For their engagement shoot, we took some photos at their house, where Dawn’s mid-century modern furniture found the perfect home in Dominique’s gorgeous house. They’ve been working hard on renovating it, […]
I did a mini session for Rhonda and Adrian’s daughter Brittany and her boyfriend James last year. She liked it so much, she bought a session for her parents. For some reason, I was expecting an older couple, but these two are clearly not old. They were really cute together and Adrian loves to wrap […]
Looking at these photos, you can tell it’s spring here. Everything is so green at Government House and the flowers are starting to bloom. Julia and Chris were in town to organize some wedding details and I’m glad I finally got to meet them in person. They were full of smiles, nervous but cute. Her […]
A friend from high school contacted me last week and said that she was on a last minute cruise to Victoria with her boyfriend and his parents. I suggested a mini session, because she’s mentioned it before. So, I waited on the breakwater for them to get off the ship, which takes longer than you […]
Ashley and William met me at East Sooke Park early last Saturday morning. I hadn’t been there in years and it was long overdue. There was almost nobody else out there, which made taking photos so easy. The sun was bright and we were all wishing we hadn’t dressed so warm, but the photos came […]
I’ve known Margaret for several years. I think we met on Twitter and she designed my business cards back in 2010 or so. She’s also been dating Nathan since then. They just got engaged earlier this year and I was so excited when they booked a mini session with me. We wandered around the breakwater […]
