Carmen and Brad wanted some photos to celebrate their fifth anniversary as a couple. They chose their first apartment together as the location, which I love because it’s so personal. Plus, their place is super stylish and bright. And they’re pretty cute together too.

Renée and Matt are Engaged
I met Renee and Matt a couple of years ago at a wedding I was photographing. I loved how adorable they were together and how much fun they were having. Below is a photo I caught of them during cocktail hour. So I was pretty psyched when they asked me to photograph their wedding and […]
Baking and Jumping with the Nylands
Wrapping up my series of family documentary sessions with fellow photographers is an evening shoot with food photographer Elizabeth Nyland‘s family. Of course, they did some baking, since Elizabeth is an awesome chef (and cookbook author). The kids were pretty into it too. Then they played a couple of rounds of Sushi Go and heading […]
The Hindleys – In Home Family Photography
I photographed another fellow photographer’s family this spring, the lovely Jenny Hindley. It was really fun getting to know her better and meet her husband and two kids. This family is pretty busy usually, so this was a rare afternoon at home, but it was an accurate snapshot of the love they all have for […]
In Home Documentary Family Session with the Morrisons
Back in spring, I enjoyed spending a couple of hours with fellow photographer Maryam‘s family in their home. She takes a lot of photos of her adorable boys, and of course her husband, but it’s nice to be able to give them some photos with all four of them (and their dog too). I took […]
At Home with The Kirbys
A few weeks ago, I spent a couple of hours at home with Sherrice, Jason, and their daughter Siome, and of course Eli the dog. I’d previously met Sherrice while she was shooting a video for her business and I took some behind the scenes photos. It was fun to see her and Eli again […]
Documentary Family Gathering
Lynda contacted me because her family was going to be in town to visit her parents, who live on the beach in Oak Bay. I didn’t really know much about it until I showed up, but it turns out that her parents were celebrating their 50th anniversary. I love how grandparents’ anniversaries tend to turn […]
What is a Documentary Photography Session?
A documentary session is when a photographer documents your activities without direction. These sessions can be for families, couples, businesses, or individuals. They’re at their best when they involve love of some sort, whether it’s love between people or love of a job or hobby. Here’s what sets documentary sessions apart from posed portrait sessions: […]
Pancakes with Baby Kohl
I visited Robin, Kylan, and their baby daughter Kohl one Sunday morning to take some photos of their typical weekend morning. They wanted to document their lives with their new baby and new home, so this sort of candid session was perfect for them. Making pancakes on weekend mornings is a tradition for them, hopefully […]
Paulette and Jim are (Still) Married
On the August long weekend, in the midst of a crazy wedding season, I got to photograph an amazing celebration of marriage and family. Paulette and Jim have been married for fifty years and their family got together for a party at a family home on the lake. They prepared a meal with flowers, herbs, […]
