I spent a little time at Red Damsel Farm in mid-July, watching Clare Day harvest and arrange some gorgeous flowers. As a wedding photographer, I tend to mostly see the finished product of floral designers like Clare’s hard work. It was nice to see more of the process and explore their organic farm.

A Very Long (Distance) Engagement
Ok, not that long distance, but enough. Sophia and Deryck live in different countries, with her living in Washington State and him living here in Victoria. Over time, they’ve settled into their own Friday night ritual for when she comes to visit. He picks her up at the ferry, bringing some food for them to […]
Colette Runs, Bikes, and Swims
I’ve known Colette for a few years through our local photography community, since she’s a family photographer. She’s been running for a while now, raising money for Team 4 Hope. I knew eventually she’d try triathlon, and lately she has and she’s been kicking some butt. We met up on a cold day in December […]
Decorating a Wedding Cake
Jessica and Edward got married in late July and decided to decorate their own wedding cake. Jessica’s sister-in-law is a baker in town, so she made the cake for them and the couple and wedding party joined in on the decorating the day before the wedding. I was there to document it and was amazed […]
Jennifer, Gord, & Jasper
Jennifer, Gord, and their six-month old son Jasper were in East Sooke a couple weeks ago visiting family. They had me along for a documentary family photography session at the beach at East Sooke Park and then some time at their family’s home nearby. I don’t typically do family portraits, so I was thrilled that […]
A Day at the Fair
Back in September, I joined Wendy and Garry for a day at the Saanich Fair. They’ve been married for nineteen years and wanted to document something they love to do together. They spend a lot of weekends checking out different events in town and experiencing new things. The fair is an old favourite of theirs, […]
In the Garden
Last spring, I had the idea to do some photographs of marriage, rather than just weddings. I wanted to spend some time photographing married or committed couples going about their normal lives, particularly doing things that make them feel most at home or happy in their relationship. I thought it would be great to show […]
A Few More Weeks of Waiting
Back in September, I shot a documentary session with my friends Lauren and Andreas. These two were adapting to and preparing for some major changes at the time, having recently moved into their newly purchased first house and expecting their first child. Lauren ended up giving birth to a sweet baby girl, Leonie, a few […]
To Market, To Market
This summer, I got to do a few documentary couples shoots. The first one was an engagement session: The Weekend Morning Ritual. This time, it was with a couple, Claire and Daniel, who’s been together for three years and wanted to have a session to celebrate their relationship, even though they aren’t engaged. I think […]
The Weekend Morning Ritual
Lauren and Ben wanted to try something a little different for their engagement session on Friday. Most of this “portrait session” was spent photographing them without any intervention on my part, aside from a little bit of conversation that I can’t seem to stop myself from indulging in. They wanted to document their weekend ritual […]
