Hi, my name is Lara and I want to take your picture.

I'm a portrait and wedding photographer, located in Victoria, BC. This page is my blog, where you can read the latest updates about my photography and life. Take a look around and leave some comments, if you want.

Check out the other sections in the menu above to see my best work and to read more about me and my business. I specialize in available light portraits and weddings, though I will break out the flash (or multiple flashes) if needed. I love to create images that really look like you - you at your best.

On Saturday, August 22nd, my right hand man Phil and I shot a wedding reception for Stephanie and Stephen. They hired a photographer to shoot the ceremony and formals and asked my friend to shoot the reception. I volunteered to shoot the reception so that my friend could relax and have fun, instead of struggling to get the right exposure in a dark hall.   The official photographer ended up sticking around longer than agreed, which was very nice of him, and we tried to stay out of his way. I had a lot of fun shooting this spirited crowd.   I loved the bridal party’s classic gangster style suits and black satin dresses.   The bride and groom looked amazing as well and there were some really impressive dancers in the crowd.  Phil and I got some images that I really love, and I hope you’ll love them too.

Photos by Phil (editing by Lara): detail shots 2 and 3 (wine bottles and candles), groom and his mother dancing (to the right of the bride and groom dancing shot), two bouquet toss photos, two last crowd dancing photos.

Reception location: Church of the Advent, Colwood, BC

I did a shoot with Irene in downtown Victoria on Saturday afternoon.  I love the colourful graffiti around.  The first one with the windows is on Fisgard just a bit east of Government Street.  I’ve been dying to do a shoot there, because I think the colours are gorgeous.  The shots with the darker graffiti and the colourful rolling door are from the alley next to Bastion Square, near the Yates parkade.  If you’re a photographer in Victoria, you should check them out.

I used my flash and new 85mm lens for this entire shoot and I think they worked awesomely together.

Did a mini shoot with Lynn in Central Park in Victoria.  Tried out my new flash reflector.  Playing around with the flash and the sun made for some interesting light.

For the below shot on the left, I told her to look sad about the litter on the ground.  She takes direction well.

Ok, I stole the name from an old friend of mine, but it’s just the sweetest name.

I’m a bit overdue for updating this blog. I’m going out for a photoshoot today, and in the meantime, here’s a photo I took of a kitten, who should hopefully be up for adoption at GVAC soon. He’s pretty shy, but we’re hoping he’ll open up a bit. I didn’t have the right gear on me to shoot in this very dark room, but this shot turned out ok.
