Bryn and Dan are Engaged

I’m so tired of Beacon Hill Park. I was tired of it after shooting there five times last year. But I had a lot of fun on this shoot there with Bryn and Dan, discovering some new locations. And I absolutely adore these photos. Bryn and Dan are so adorable and cheerful – their happiness is totally infectious. Plus, they’re really stylish (in a fun way). They’re everything I want my photography to be – colourful, joyful, fun, and full of emotion and love. I can’t wait for their Pender Island wedding in October.

Carly and Brent are Engaged

I met Carly and Brent out in Sooke a couple of weeks ago for their engagement session at East Sooke Park. It was such a great location, with stunning views, and a bit of a workout for us all. Carly and Brent are a lot of fun and Brent kept Carly laughing the whole time with his goofy faces. I can’t wait for their wedding in August.

Stephanie and Tyler Anniversary Portraits

Stephanie and Tyler visited Victoria a few months ago and got me to take some anniversary portraits for them. We wandered around downtown a bit and then took a walk near the ocean along Dallas Road. Aren’t they adorable? They both have the most amazing eyes.

Ashley and Bryan are Engaged

Ashley and Bryan met me at Cattle Point a couple of weeks ago for their engagement shoot and we headed over to Mt. Tolmie after for some great views. They’re a really sweet couple, making for some beautiful, intimate portraits. I booked their wedding last June, when we met over pints at Maude Hunter’s and I could tell they were a fun and laid-back couple. I can’t wait for their August wedding at Sea Cider, where they’ll have lots of friends and family come all the way from Ontario to celebrate their marriage.

I had a fun shoot up at Mt. Doug with Kirsten and Chris a couple weeks ago. I got a chance to try out some new techniques, including my first successful Brenizer Method outside of the workshop (see second image), and enjoy the ridiculous amount of greenery there and stunning view. I loved their matching outfits and her amazing red hair.

Here’s the final set of photos I took at the Ryan Brenizer workshop in LA. Ron and Mari were kind enough to model for us, and they were naturals. These were all taken using available light.

The following is a Brenizer Method panorama made up of 12 photos taken with my 85mm 1.8 lens. It was initially going to be larger, but I stopped in the middle when I remembered that everything was supposed to be set to manual mode. Then I realized that everything already was manual. Oh well.

A random cat stopped by to visit us on the rooftop. I couldn’t resist taking some photos.

And a couple of shots of Ryan teaching, taken with my tilt-shift lens on the first day I used it.

Finally wrapping up the 2010 review before January ends, then it’s time to break out the camera again. These are my favourite engagement shoot photos from 2010. Engagement shoots are a great way to get comfortable with the camera and your photographer, and can result in some great images for your guestbook, save the date cards, or display at your wedding. They’re fun because you have as much time as you need without the hectic schedule of the wedding day.

Kurt and Catherine are Engaged

Kurt and Cat joined me for a very cold engagement shoot a couple of weeks ago. They had a bunch of great location ideas (and some really creative wedding ideas). I worked with Kurt for a while, back when I worked for an engineering company. I’m glad that we’ve been able to keep in touch, because these two are lots of fun and remind me of my old engineering school days. The locations we visited included the Selkirk trestle, Songhees oceanfront, Phillips Brewery graffiti wall, The Union Club exterior, and Herald Street with all the pretty Christmas lights.

I love the early evening light at this time of year. The low sun around 4:30pm is incredibly warm-looking. I’m also starting to really love shooting at night. I didn’t use my flashes too much during this shoot, but we did play with the umbrella a bit.

Oh, and we saw a double rainbow.

Brianne and Chris are Engaged

Last Sunday, I made the trek out to Sooke to meet Brianne and Chris for their engagement session. It rained off and on during the drive there, but cleared up for some spectacular sunlight during the shoot. I got a tour of Brianne’s parents’ 200 acre property, which was amazing. They were a little nervous, but oh so cute. I really love the way these photos turned out and I can’t wait for their wedding next month.
