Hi, my name is Lara and I want to take your picture.

Welcome to my blog, where you can see my latest work. Check out the links above for more information on my business and to see my best work in my portfolios. Contact me with any questions or to set up a meeting or session by phone at 250-418-5870 or e-mail at lara@laraeichhorn.com.

I’m so happy that the girls on the board of the Greater Victoria Animal Crusaders (GVAC) gave me a chance to redesign their website.  Here it is, if you want to have a look (or if you’re looking to adopt an animal or donate to a great cause).  I made the site using WordPress, just like I did for this site.  I thought it would give the volunteers an easy way to update the site, without having a lot of technical knowledge. Some of them have taken to it really fast and even discovered some things I didn’t know WordPress could do.  I’m still tweaking the design here and there and adding plugins to make things work better.  We should be adding a blog section in the near future with updates and cute stories about the foster animals.

We’re currently looking for someone to volunteer to design a new logo for GVAC.   I think I’m pretty good at web design, but terrible at logo design.  If you’re a graphic designer looking to help out a charity, please contact me.

I’m currently fostering a beautiful cat named Baby.  Below are some photos I took of her.  I’m not sure what kind of cat she is, but I think she looks like a miniature Maine Coon.  She’s quite sassy and independent.  She spent the first week smacking my poor little Isabelle in the face and biting her ear, but Izzy didn’t really seem to mind.  Now, she’s playing with Freddie and Izzy all the time.   When I had a bunch of people over the other night, she was super social.  She even snuggled up on my belly when I was lying on the couch last night.  Anyone want to adopt a sweet yet tough cat in Victoria?

A couple of weeks ago, I got together with some photographer friends for some fun portraits in Beacon Hill Park. Jon Faulknor taught us all a bit about flashes. I’ve been using natural and available light for the past six years that I’ve been into photography and I’ve only recently started learning about using photographic lighting and flashes.  I hope to become more proficient with flashes, but I still think natural light is more suited to my style.  The first shot is with Jon’s flash setup. I believe the others are natural light, but Jon can be pretty sneaky with those flashes.

I’ve mostly finished the redesign of this site.  The central point of the design is a blog header, designed by Amy at Candy Apple Studios.  She specializes in branding for photographers, so if you’re working on your brand, check her out.  She was great to work with and took all of my suggestions, even the nitpicky ones (and told me when I asked if my idea was silly).  I love all of it.  What do you think?

Aside from the blog header, she also made my logo, business cards, watermarks, and packaging stickers.  I think the colors are a little off because these things are meant for print, aside from the watermark.  I forgot to change the colour space when converting these, but the pink should be the same pink as the blog header and the watermark.
